they’re bound to the original animated versions, so they have an obligation to be “remakes”, but with the amount of time between the original and now, plus an all-new creative team, there are going to be changes too. I don’t think these two can exist in harmony.
SO WISE, SO TRUE. Maleficent (the first live action remake?) was able to remain mostly original and creative within the scope of the animated version by sticking to the timeline and major events of the animated movie, but changing the POV of the story, and switching the heros and villains. I understand why people went wild for it because remixing the story like that kinda rules. But I don't think any other live action remake has done this? I wonder why since Maleficent was so successful?
